SUN ROOFS

INTRODUCTION

The system comprises 3 dual movement sun roofs. tilting and sliding. Each sun roof has its own controls. A switch located on the front courtesy light allows the simultaneous operation of the roofs in the second and third rows. The sun roofs can be operated using the control buttons with the ignition key in the ACC or M positions. If the key is turned to the OFF position or after it has been extracted, the sun roofs remain activated for about 1 minutes; if the driver''s door is opened during this period, the movement of the roofs is permitted until the door is closed.

SUN ROOFS

The anti-crush safety function is only available for the sliding movement; if an obstacle is detected whilst it is closing, the movement is halted and the roof retracted by around 15 cm.

The tilted opening and closing function is impulse operated and the control must therefore be pressed for a long time.

The sliding opening and closing function is impulse operated and the control must therefore be pressed for a long time or sequentially (automatic operation) by pressing briefly..

The sun roof nodes do not activate the VAN.

Complete opening/closing cycle

Tilted opening by pressing for a long time,

Sliding opening either sequentially (pressing briefly) or manually (pressing for longer),

Sliding closing either sequentially (pressing briefly) or manually (pressing for longer),

Stopped in the maximum tilt position,

Tilted closing by pressing for a long time,

Sequential movment, pressing a control stops the movement in progress.

COMPOSITION

The sun roof assembly comprises the following electrical components:

  • a geared motor capable of rotating in both directions with polar reversal which starts the sun roof mechanism. It is equipped with thermal protection controlled by software,
  • an obstacle detection system (Hall effect sensor) which carries out the anti-crush safety function,
  • a Sun Roof Node (NTA: one for each roof) ensures: the indentification of obstacles, impulse operation, an interface with the VAN CAR network.

The principle diagram is illustrated below.
  • 1 Remote control
  • 2 Steering Wheel Node (NVO: incorporates the high frequency receiver and manages the signal reception
  • 3 Body Computer Node (NBC: authorizes the operation of the sun roofs)
  • 4 3rd row roof switch: controls the opening/closing of the 3rd row roof
  • 5 3rd row sun roof Node (NTA3: manages the operation of the 3rd row roof motor)
  • 6 2nd row roof switch: controls the opening/closing of the 2nd row roof
  • 7 2nd row sun roof Node (NTA2: manages the operation of the 2nd row roof motor)
  • 8 2nd and 3rd row front courtesy light sun roof control switch
  • 9 1st row sun roof Node (NTA1: manages the operation of the 1st row roof motor)
  • 10 1st row roof switch: controls the opening/closing of the 1st row roof
  • 11 Driver door node (NPG: acquires the child lock switch status and transfers the information to the NBC via the VAN CAR2 network
  • 12 Child lock switch: inhibits the operation of the 2nd and 3rd row sun roofs

Particular functions

Sun roof initialization

The initialization procedure must be carried out in the following cases:

  • removing-refitting of sun roof node (the relevant roof must be initialized),
  • battery disconnection (all the sun roofs must be initialized),

The initialization procedure consists of pressing the button in the closing direction for five seconds after the moving panel has stopped in the closed end of travel position.

Child locks and switching off for rows 2 and 3

The engagement of the child locks inhibits the operation of the roofs and the 2nd and 3rd rows. The engagement of the child locks (button on the driver''s door panel) is managed by the NBC.

Sun roof central locking

The sun roof closes automatically by sliding the moment the doors are locked and the electric windows are closed automatically.

Switch lighting

The brightness of the switch lighting, which is managed by the NBC, cannot be regulated.

The lighting for each switch is activated when the operation of the relevant sun roof is authorized.

Switching off anti-crush safety function

Proceed as follows to switch off the anti-crush safety function:

  • keep the button pressed for a while in the opening direction until the end of travel opening position is reached,
  • release the button,
  • keep the button pressed for a while in the closing direction for less than five seconds after the moving panel stops.

Operating mode in case of failure

In the case of a problem, the operation is as follows:

  • automatic opening or closing of the moving panel prohibited.
  • manual opening of the sun roof authorized.
  • initialization authorized by pressing the control for a while.
  • closing only possible by pressing the control for a while: closing of sun roof through stepping type operation: sliding with a maximum movement of around 45 mm each time the control is pressed for a while in the closing direction, tilting with a maximum movement of around 5 mm each time the control is pressed for a while in the closing direction.

Diagnostics

The following information assists in the fault diagnosis:

  • geared motor defect (sensors, relays, etc.),
  • detection of an obstacle (number, position of the obstacle, etc.),
  • initialization problem (type, cause, etc.),
  • engine speed/transfer time too high/too short,
  • problem with the sensors and actuators managed by the sun roof.
