STEERING WHEEL ADJUSTMENT DESCRIPTION

Description

The vehicle is equipped with a special electric steering wheel height adjustment device which is useful for the driver for ensuring the best driving position; there are two main movements for the steering column: longitudinal and axial.

The electric steering wheel adjustment device is managed by the steering position control unit: this movement can be made either manually, using the joystick on the left of the steering wheel or automatically by recalling one of three memorized positions using the buttons in the driver''s seat controls.

The electrical movement of the steering wheel (manual and automatic) is only activated with the ignition ON (INT); when the ignition is switched OFF a timed period of around a minute starts during which the completely automatic operation of the memory recall is guaranteed. he device is excluded temporarily during start-up (INT/A).

The "Easy Entry/Exit" function is activated to make to easier for the driver to get into and out of the car: it consists in the upwards movement, as far as the end of travel position, of the steering column and, at the same time, the backwards movement of the driver''s seat by about 5 cm when the key-off condition is ascertained and the driver''s front door is open.

See E3040 CENTRAL LOCKING

The steering wheel and seat return to the positions set by the user when stable conditions are restored, i.e. door closed nad key-on.

Three buttons on the front driver seat are used to call up stored positions automatically.

See E3022 HEADLAMP WASHER

See E3076 ELECTRICALLY-ADJUSTABLE SEATS

See E3077 FRONT HEAD RESTRAINT ADJUSTMENT

This memory funcion is managed by the driving position control unit, which downloads seat and steering column positions directly and also door mirror positions via the CAN network. The control unit stores all the above positions when one of the three buttons is held down for at least three seconds. A buzzer inside the instrument panel goes off when the positions have been stored.

The memory recall function is inhibited when the car is travelling faster than 10 km/h, via a signal sent via the CAN network from the Body Computer to the driving position control unit.
