Each side door has a latch mechanism which contains two electrically operated motors which drive the latch mechanism into one of its two locked states. When CDL locking is selected, only the CDL motor operates. When superlocking is selected both the CDL and superlocking motors operate. Each motor responds to requests generated by the Central Control Unit (CCU). The tail door has a lock motor in its latch mechanism. The tail door lock motor operates independent of the key and remote handset locking. When the vehicle is CDL locked or superlocked, the CCU removes the power supply from the tail door lock motor, preventing the tail door from being opened.
A switch within each latch mechanism signals the CCU if a door is open or closed. In the drivers door latch mechanism, a second switch operates from a lock barrel and transmits signals to the CCU dependant on key movement. This switch operates the key locking of the vehicle and also the EKA feature.
A latch motor protection feature is programmed into the CCU. This prevents continual operation of the door latch mechanism motors. The CCU will only allow a maximum of eight changes of state of the latch mechanism within a sixteen second period.
The drivers door latch mechanism is designed to prevent slam locking. Slam locking is available on the passenger door(s).
A lock request made using the vehicle key or the remote handset will not be granted when the ignition is in position II. If any of the doors are open when superlock is requested from either the vehicle key or the remote handset, the CCU will only CDL lock the doors which are correctly closed.
