Description and operationIntermittent Function

The feed from fuse 8 is connected directly to the CCU (C593-H) and is connected to the coil of the front wiper relay. A feed from fuse 3 of the passenger compartment fusebox is connected directly to the CCU (C593-N) and is connected to the front wiper relay switch contacts.

Intermittent Function

A feed, also from fuse 3 of the passenger compartment fusebox (C581-9), is connected by a green and yellow wire to the windscreen wash/wipe switch (C320-6) and supplies a feed to the variable wipe potentiometer. When variable wipe is selected, the feed passes through the variable wipe potentiometer and is connected, from the wash/wipe switch (C320-4), by a white and pink wire to the CCU (C429-6). The CCU uses the signal from the potentiometer to determine the delay for the intermittent wipe function.

When the windscreen wash/wipe switch is moved to the ’INT’ position, a feed from the passenger compartment fusebox (C580-16) is connected to the switch (C035-1) by a light green wire. The feed passes through the switch contacts and is connected from the switch (C035-2) to the CCU (428-3) by green wire. The CCU senses the feed and interprets it as a signal to provide an earth path for the front wiper relay coil. The earth path is made from the CCU (C593-C), through the passenger compartment fusebox (C587-2) and to an earth earth header joint (C018-3) on a black wire.

With the relay contacts closed, power flows through the relay and from the CCU (C430-8) on a light green and pink wire to the windscreen wash/wipe switch (C035-7). The feed passes from the switch contacts (C035-4) and is connected to the windscreen wiper motor (C030-5) by a blue and light green wire. The CCU senses the signals received from the windscreen wash/wipe switch potentiometer and removes and reinstates the earth path for the front wiper relay at the appropriate intervals. The connection to the windscreen wiper motor is to the slow speed motor brushes and will operate the wipers at slow speed.
