Description and operationRear Wash/Wipe Function · page 1 of 2

The rear screen wiper motor operates in the reverse direction. An offset cam in the wiper motor rotates through 180 degrees and allows the rear screen wiper motor to move the wiper arm to a lower position than its operating position. This parks the wiper off screen. Switches within the motor signal the CCU when the wiper is in its park position. The CCU then removes the feed to the rear wiper relay reverse coil. This, in turn, removes the earth path for the rear screen wiper motor which stops operating, leaving the wiper off screen in the park position.

Rear Wash/Wipe Function

When the rear washer switch is pushed, a feed from fuse 1 of the passenger compartment fusebox (C589-7) passes to the rear washer switch (C073-1) on a green and yellow wire. The feed is connected from the switch (C073-4) to a header joint (C287-14) by a green and black wire.

A green and black wire connects the feed from the header joint (C287-16) to the rear screen washer pump (C021-1). The pump (C021-2) is connected to earth by a black wire to earth header joint (C018-2). This operates the rear screen washer pump.

The feed from the rear washer switch is also connected from the header joint (C287-13) to the CCU (C428-1) by a green and black wire. The feed is used as a signal for the CCU to allow a feed from fuse 8 of the passenger compartment fusebox, to pass through the CCU (C429-5) to the rear wiper relay (C124-7) on a yellow and black wire. This energizes the coil of the forward relay which provides an earth from the rear screen wiper motor (C388-1) on a green and red wire to the rear wiper relay (C124-9). The earth path is completed from the relay (C124-4) to earth header joint (C551-1) by a black wire.
