Exploded view of clutch assembly showing pressure plate, clutch plate, and flywheel with callout numbers 9, 10, and 11
  1. Progressively slacken and then remove 6 bolts securing pressure plate to flywheel.
  2. Remove pressure plate.
  3. Collect clutch plate.
  4. Inspect clutch plate for signs of wear or oil contamination and renew if necessary.
Diagram showing measurement of clutch plate run-out using a dial gauge mounted on a gearbox mainshaft
  1. Measure clutch lining thickness, renew plate if less than service limit.

Lining thickness – new clutch plate = 8.4 ÷ 8.9 mm.

Lining thickness – service limit = 5.9 mm.

  1. Measure rivet depth, renew plate if less than service limit.

Rivet depth – New clutch plate = 1.3 min.

Rivet depth – Service limit = 0.2 mm.

  1. Measure clutch plate run – out using a dial gauge and a gearbox mainshaft, renew plate if outside service limit.

Run out – New clutch plate = 0.8 mm max.

Run out – Service limit = 1.0 mm.

  1. Check for loose torsion rubbers, renew plate if necessary.
  2. Check pressure plate for signs of wear or damage and renew if necessary.
Pressure plate shown with a straight edge and feeler gauge checking surface flatness at callout point 18
  1. Using a straight edge and feeler gauge check the surface of the pressure plate for flatness at 4 separate points, renew if warping exceeds service limit.

Pressure plate warping – service limit = 0.15 mm max.

Refit

  1. Clean pressure plate and flywheel, dowels and dowel holes.
  2. Smear clutch plate splines with molybdenum disulphide grease. Position clutch plate to flywheel with large boss facing towards flywheel.
