WINDSCREEN WASH AND WIPER OPERATION
Operation of the windscreen wipers and washers and rear screen wipers and washers is controlled by the wash/wipe switch mounted at the R.H. side of the steering column. The wiper system is capable of five separate functions, dependent upon switch position. The rear screen wash/wipe system has three functions. The wiper switch may be rotated from the OFF position to selected positions; Intermittent, Normal or Fast wipe speeds. Single wipe being obtained by a downward movement of the lever from the OFF position. The windscreen washer will operate when the lever is pulled towards the steering wheel.
When the wiper switch is selected to any ON position a two speed wiper motor (1) provides drive through a rotary link (2) to two wiper mechanisms (3) which convert the lateral motion of the links into the sweeping motion of the wiper arm (4) and blade (5).
The fast, normal and intermittent speeds, when selected, are controlled by the electrical multi – function control unit. The windscreen wipers are only operational when the ignition switch is at position 'II' .
The operation of the windscreen washer is controlled by the wash/wipe stalk lever, when the lever is pulled towards the steering wheel, washer fluid is drawn by an electric pump (6), from the reservoir (7) located to the rear of the engine bay, and is sprayed against the windscreen by jets (8). The wipers will continue to operate for a period of eight seconds after the washer switch has been released.
