Checking pump delivery pressure

Pump faults

=> Fault finding No. 10 Running gear

  • ‒ Disconnect pump pressure pipe.

  • ‒ → Install adapter and test equipment. Cut-off valve on gauge open.
  • ‒ Start engine and if necessary add fluid to reservoir.
  •     A -    V.A.G 1402/2
  •     B -    V.A.G 1402/1
  •     C -    Hose from adapter kit 1402/6
  •     D -    V.A.G 1402

Conditions for performing check

  • ● V-belt/V-belt tension OK.
  • ● System not leaking.
  • ● Hoses/pipes are not kinked or restricted.
  • ‒ With engine running at idling speed. Close cut-off valve (not longer than 5 seconds) and read off pressure.
  • ‒ Specification: 85 ... 95 bar

Notes:

  • ◆ If the reading is higher or lower than specified renew pump:
  • ◆ Removing and installing power assisted steering vane pump. Vehicles with 1.8 ltr., 1.9 ltr., 2.0 ltr. engine=>Page 48-123.
  • ◆ Vehicles with 128 kW engine=>Page48-132.
  • ◆ If reservoir fluid level is low then check steering system for leaks.
  • ◆ For leaks at the pinion first check the pipes/pipe connections for leaks and if necessary tighten and wipe dry.
  • ◆ The steering box can be serviced if the pinion seal or the rack seals in steering box housing are leaking.
  • ◆ To check the rack seals loosen the hose clip on the bellows and push bellows to one side.
