Cooling system
Function

- The cooling system functions using the opposing flow principle
- The coolant pump pumps coolant around the coolant mantle of the first cylinder. A plate in the mantle distributes the coolant between the first cylinder and the oil cooler
- The coolant then flows backwards in the engine block and is distributed through the slits between the cylinders and up into the ducts around the exhaust valves. Heat peaks, particularly around the valve seats, are eliminated, giving a more even temperature
- After exiting the cylinder block, the oil is led around the pipes for exhaust gas recirculation to the passenger compartment heater element and back to the thermostat housing and the coolant pump.
