VOLTAGE DROP MEASUREMENT
Before starting this measurement, ensure that the component or line is connected to the power supply, as indicated in the electrical diagram. Prepare the voltmeter.
Connect the voltmeter tips to the two points where the voltage difference is to be found and read this value, selecting a suitable scale: connect the positive tip to the part nearest the power supply.
Since the connectors and contacts have been designed and built to ensure minimum voltage drops, a value over 1 V indicates problems in the line section involved.
SHORT CIRCUIT CHECK with voltmeter
Before starting the measurement, ensure that the component or line to be tested is connected to the power supply, as indicated in the electrical diagram. Prepare the voltmeter.
Remove the fuse (which should have triggered)from the relevant circuit and disconnect the load.
Connect the voltmeter tips to the fuse terminals; connect the positive tip to the part nearest the power supply.
If the voltmeter indicates there is power, part of the circuit will be short circuited to earth (wire uncovered, worn, crimped, ecc..); the part involved can be found by moving the wiring to find in which positions the voltage value is not 0 V.
