Line verification
ELECTRICAL CONTINUITY MEASUREMENT
First of all disconnect the power supply from the component. Prepare the ohmeter and set it so as to read "0 Ohm" with the two tips touching.
Place the two tips on the ends of the component or cable being tested and read the resistance value:
- "0 Ohm" no resistance: this indicates electrical continuity
- high Ohm (according to the full scale value) corresponds to infinite resistance: this indicates that there is a break in continuity.
For some components, such as resistors, sensors, electric motors etc., the reading of a specific value, corresponding to the component impedence, enables verification of integrity.
VOLTAGE MEASUREMENT
Before starting this measurement, ensure that the component or line being tested is connected to the power supply, as indicated on the electrical diagram. Prepare the voltmeter.
Connect the voltmeter negative tip to earth(for example, to the battery earth). Connect the positive tip to the point where the voltage value is to be found and read this value, selecting a suitable scale.
The knowledge of the exact voltage value on various points of a line or circuit allows a quick localization of the part involved in the problem.
