GLOW HEATER PLUGS OPERATION CHECK

Check 5520CA

1.9 JTD 8v, 1.9 JTD 16v

The glowheater plugs are activated when the engine is cold. The heating time is directly proportional to engine temperature

STEPCHECK TO BE PERFORMEDREMEDIAL ACTION IF THE CHECK IS NOT OK
1

Heater plugs absorption check

Check that the battery voltage is not below 12.6 V

Place the 1000 Amp ammeter clamp for the Examiner equipment on the lead of the glow heater plug being tested.

Turn the key to the MAR position and check the current uptake of the glow heater plug

The peak average rated current level must be 15A

Checks must be carried out at a constant voltage of 11 V

If the heater plugs do not heat up correctly move on to Step 2

Restore the electrical continuity for the supply leads for the heater plugs coming from the preheating control unit.
2Glow heater plugs power supply check. With the ignition key in the MAR position (engine cold) check that the power supply for the individual glow heater plugs is correct during the preheating stage.

Restore the electrical continuity for the supply leads and for the cable coming from the engine control unit and ensure the cables and the connections for the wiring involved are correctly fastened

See E5050 DIESEL ENGINES ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT

If the check is OK

If the check is OK

Replace the engine management control unit

Op. 1060G80 DIESEL ELECTRONIC INJECTION CONTROL UNIT - R.R

3

Glow heater plugs check

Disconnect the wiring from the heater plug in question

Using the Examiner in the ohmmeter function, connect the probes between the body of the heater plug and the threaded end of the heater plug.

Check that the resistance for each individual heater plug is between 0.5 and 1 Ohm at 20°C

Replace the heater plug

Op. 5520C10 HEATER PLUGS - R+R
