CLIMATE CONTROL RECIRCULATION (AUTOMATIC MODE) NOT WORKING

AUTOMATIC AIR CONDITIONING

For vehicles with AQS sensors only, the recirculation is not closed automatically if there is pollution (CO, NO2 toxic gases only). The automatic climate control is on the dual zone version only.

1

With the engine started up, set the climate control system control unit to the AUTO position, adjust the temperature knob to 22°C, set the fan speed to 8 bars, then press the recirculation button (check that the symbol appears on the display). Check that the air flow rate varies during the opening/closing of the flap. Also locate the grille in the engine compartment for the air intake casing and check the air intake when switching from recirculation to outside air intake.

"When the control unit is set to the FULL AUTO function and the outside temperature is below 3°C the air intake flap opens automatically to prevent the windscreen from misting up".

Connect the Examiner diagnostic equipment and check:

  • that there are no errors at the air recirculation actuator;
  • that there are no faults in the AQS sensor.

Keeping the Examiner diagnostic equipment connected, check, through active diagnosis,

  • that the air recirculation is working properly;
  • that all the LEDs and graphic LCD symbols in the display come on.

  • that the recirculation flap is working properly in automatic mode by carrying out the "Pollutiono sensor test".

If the result is negative, carry out the test.

Check whether the electrical wiring connections are loose.

Remove the control unit from the dashboard mounting, disconnect the cable connector from the control unit visually inspecting for any damage to the connector and connect it correctly to check for any false contacts.

Remove the oddments pocket and disconnect the connector, inspecting visually for any damage to it and reconnect the electrical connector to the actuator.

Move on to Step 5Electrical wiring connections loose or damaged.Restore the correct wiring connections.

Then proceed as follows: with the vehicle running, switch on the air recirculation function manually with the fan at the maximum speed. If the actuator works and the flap is operated, check by feeling that the air flwo varies when it is moved. Deactivate the function by returning the actuator to its original position. Identify the grille on the vehicle for the air intake casing and check the air intake between the recirculation and the outside air and viceversa by feeling by hand. If the result of the check is positive, do not replace the actuator. If there are further doubts as to the operation of the actuator, it is possible to carry out the check following the instructions described below if the air intake casing is easily accessible.

See Test 5040DE CHECK ON OPERATION OF RECIRCULATION ACTUATORS
