Diagram showing an air bag module and its installation location within the vehicle steering assembly

Handle the Air Bag module with extreme caution. Ensure that the battery is disconnected.

  • The figure illustrates how the Air-bag device should be stored in a locked cupboard.

Reinstallation

  • If installing a new module, arrange the relevant labels. Remove the removable part of the adhesive label from the new module and place it in a specific file containing the vehicle details (model, registration data, chassis number) and the serial number of the old module. The file must be kept for possible checks. A new adhesive plate is supplied with the module to be stuck over the one already present on the vehicle. However, before doing so, it must be perforated corresponding to the month and the 10 years following the year in which the module is fitted (e.g. if fitted in 2000, this corresponds to 2010).

During the reinstallation phase, guide and keep the Air-bag cable under tension to prevent it from being crushed and thus damaged.

  • Connect the electrical connections and lock them with the appropriate safety clips.
  • Position the Air Bag module in place and verify that it is securely locked.
  • Verify the system functionality using Examiner or other diagnostic tools.
