55 Electrical equipmentRelease condition

This device immobilises the vehicle by locking the fuel injection control unit on petrol engines. On diesel versions, the engine is locked by a module on the pump, which cuts off fuel flow. The Fiat-CODE control unit contains a memory. The memory can be accessed only by a tester and via a code on the user's card.

The control unit memory is divided into three well-defined areas:

A. Ignition key transponder code storage area.
B. User's card access code storage area.
C. Injection control unit code storage area (fuel pump control unit for diesel versions).

The Fiat-CODE control unit can be used to store five different transponder codes. It is therefore able to recognise five vehicle ignition codes.
The device can be tested by connecting a tester to the tester socket under the facia inside the car.

NOTE All procedures for accessing the control unit memory and storing ignition key transponders can only be carried out only by connecting a tester to the appropriate socket.

Release condition

When the igition key is turned to M (+15), the control unit generates an electromagnetic induction that allows the transponder code on the ignition key to be read via a receiver (aerial). Once the access code has been read, the control unit software checks it is OK. Whenever the car is started up, the Fiat-CODE control unit checks the transponder code stored in the key, compares it with the code in its memory and, if the code is recognised, sends a specific access code to the injection control unit. The control unit identifies the code and allows the system to work so that the car can be started up.

Lock condition

The lock procedure is sent automatically by the Fiat-CODE control unit under the following conditions:

  • Ten seconds after opening the front doors and cutting off the power supply (+15) from the ignition switch
  • Five minutes after cutting off the power supply (+15) from the ignition switch
