Summary of components of steering column
  Note
t  Do not carry out repair work on the steering column.
t  Always replace the self-locking nuts and screws.
t  Replace the affected nuts and screws.
t  Welding and straightening of the steering components is not allowed.
t  Steering columns are supplied as a spare part with ignition lock housing but without lock cylinder and ignition starter switch. The lock cylinder and ignition starter switch must be removed from the removed steering column or be obtained as a spare part.
t  If the steering column is damaged as a result of an accident these steering components must be replaced: Pos. 2 or Pos. 3, Pos. 7, Pos. 8.
1 - Central pipe
2 - Steering column
q   with steering wheel adjustment
q   check for damage → Chapter
q   removing and installing → Chapter
q   Assignment → Electronic Catalogue of Original Parts
3 - Steering column
q   without steering wheel adjustment
q   check for damage → Chapter
q   removing and installing → Chapter
q   Assignment → Electronic Catalogue of Original Parts
4 - Screw, 23 Nm
5 - Screw, 20 Nm + 90°
q   replace after each removal
6 - Steering gear
7 - Bushing
q   replace if damaged
q   removing and installing → Chapter
8 - Screw, 7 Nm
9 - Screw, 9 Nm
10 - Crash strut
q   Assignment → Electronic Catalogue of Original Parts
11 - Screw, 20 Nm
q   replace after each removal
q   Nut for screw welded to the central pipe
