Front Wheelhouse Panel Brace Replacement (5-Door Hatchback 68 and Wagon 35) Note:  According to different corrosion warranties, only the regional mandatory joining methods are allowed. Removal Procedure Warning:  Refer to Approved Equipment for Collision Repair Warning . Warning:  Refer to Glass and Sheet Metal Handling Warning . 1. Disable the SIR System. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling . 2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection . 3. Remove all related panels and components. 4. Visually inspect the damage. Repair as much of the damage as possible. 5. Remove the sealers and anti-corrosion materials from the repair area, as necessary.            6. Locate and mark all the necessary factory welds and weld seams of the front wheelhouse panel brace (1). 7. Drill all factory welds. Note the number and location of welds for installation of the service assembly.            Note:  Note the number and location of welds for installation of the service assembly. 8. Grind all weld seams (1).            9. Remove the front wheelhouse panel brace (1). Installation Procedure            1. Create 4 x 6 x 20 mm slots for brazing to front wheelhouse (1). 2. Clean and prepare the attaching surfaces for spot welding and brazing.            Note:  In MIG-brazing, areas 50 mm (2 in) must be kept clear of structural adhesive. 3. Apply structural adhesive (1) to all attaching surfaces.            4. Position the front wheelhouse panel brace (1) on the vehicle. 5. Verify the fit of the front wheelhouse panel brace. 6. Clamp the front wheelhouse panel brace into position.            7. Braze the front wheelhouse panel brace (1) accordingly.   •  Front wheelhouse panel brace / Body hinge pillar (2) - 7 x 25 mm braze seams   •  Front wheelhouse panel brace / Front wheelhouse (3) - 4 x 6 x 20 mm slot brazes            8. Spot weld the front wheelhouse panel brace (1) accordingly.   •  Upper flange (2) - 14 spot welds   •  Flange wheelhouse (3) - 23 spot welds   •  Front flange (4) - 6 spot welds 9. Apply the sealers and anti-corrosion materials to the repair area, as necessary. 10. Paint the repaired area. 11. Install all related panels and components. 12. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection . 13. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
