PARKING DEVICE NOT WORKING

1.2 8v, 1.3 Multijet, 1.4 16v

The ultrasound distance detection system for parking provides the driver with information on distance while approaching obstacles behind the car.

The information of the presence and distance of an obstacle is transmitted to the driver by means of acoustic warnings whose frequency depends on the distance of the obstacle.

The distance measurement only takes place when the system is activated, whilst only the control unit microcontroller is operational in the inactive state.

The system is activated with the key ON and reverse engaged. The Parking Sensor Node receives a reversing signal from the Body Computer Node via the CAN line.

Test results
1CHECK USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENTAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

Connect the Examiner diagnostic equipment and check the following data in CAN mode:

  • no "control unit inactive" signal
  • no "faulty control units" signal
  • no "faulty CAN line" signal

Check for faults in the parking sensor node

Move on to Step 2

1. Control unit inactive

2. Control unit error

3. Control units with CAN line error

1. Move on to Step 2

2. Continue as instructed by the diagnostic equipment

3. Repair any faults in the CAN line

2CONTROL UNIT POWER SUPPLY CHECKAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

Check the parking sensor node power supply voltage is correct by carrying out

See Test

Move on to Step 3

1. Fuse blown

2. Power supply inefficient

3. Earth inefficient

1. 1.Eliminate any short circuits and then replace fuse F49 in the dashboard junction unit.

2. Restore correct power supply

3. Restore earth connection

See E3090 PARKING SENSOR

3REVERSING SWITCH CHECKAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

Check that the reversing switch is working properly

Check the continuity of the wiring between the switch and the engine compartment junction unit

Check that the reversing switch is receiving the correct power supply

Move on to Step 4

1. Reversing switch defective

2. Wiring from reversing switch to Body Computer interrupted

3. Wiring from engine compartment junction unit to reversing switch interrupted

4. Switch power supply interrupted

1. Replace the reversing switch

Op. 5550D22 REVERSING LIGHT SWITCH - R+R

2. Restore the correct wiring continuity.

3. Restore the correct wiring continuity.

4. Restore correct power supply.

4CHECK SYSTEM EFFICIENCYAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

Check the continuity/insulation of the ultrasound sensors circuit

Check that the ultrasound sensors power supply is correct by carrying out

See Test 5580HB PARKING SENSOR SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK

End of diagnosis

1. Sensor wiring defective

2. Sensor power supply interrupted

3. Sensors defective

4. Parking sensor control unit defective

1. Repair wiring.

2. Restore correct power supply.

3. Replace defective sensor.

4. Replace parking sensors control unit

Op. 5580H10 PARKING OBSTACLE DETECTION DEVICE ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT - R.R.
