Idle Air Control (IAC) valve

Schematic diagram of the idle air control system showing the throttle body, IAC valve, ECM, and associated wiring connections labeled A through F.
A To PGM – Fi main relay D Fast idle thermo valve
B ECM E Idle adjusting screw
C IAC valve F Various Sensors

The idle speed of the engine is controlled by the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve situated in a by – pass passage located in the throttle body. Movement of the idle air control valve changes throttle speed irrespective of throttle valve position. The valve changes the amount of air bypassing into the intake manifold in response to signals received by the ECM from various sensors. When the IAC valve is activated, the valve opens to maintain the optimum engine idle speed.
