HYDRAULIC BRAKE SYSTEM - BLEED AIR

Operation 0010T65 · VEHICLE FLUIDS

1.2 8v, 1.3 Multijet, 1.4 16v

The air in the hydraulic circuit acts as a pad, absorbing a large amount of the pressure exerted by the brake pump and reducing the efficiency of the braking.

The air present is felt at the brake pedal making it seem "spongy" and reducing the braking capacity.

- Position the vehicle on a lift.

- Check that the brake/clutch fluid is between the MIN and MAX levels.

Use solely the specified brake-clutch fluid.

1. Remove the brake/clutch fluid reservoir cap and connect the equipment to the reservoir.

To ensure the braking system is bled fully, the equipment service excess pressure must be adjusted to 1.0 bar.

HYDRAULIC BRAKE SYSTEM - BLEED AIR

- Remove the protective cap for the bleed valve on the front brake calliper.

1. Connect the recovery device (pipe and reservoir) to the front brake calliper bleed valve.

2. Open the bleed valve.

- Open the fluid reservoir tap slowly.

- Wait for all the air in the hydraulic system to escape.

- Retighten the bleed valve on the brake calliper to the specified torque.

- Carry out the same operations on the remaining brake caliper.

HYDRAULIC BRAKE SYSTEM - BLEED AIR

- Remove the protective cap for the bleed valve on the rear brake cylinders.

1. Connect the recovery device (pipe and reservoir) to the bleed valve on the rear brake cylinders.

2. Open the bleed valve.

- Open the fluid reservoir tap slowly.

- Wait for all the air in the hydraulic system to escape.

- Retighten the bleed valve on the brake calliper to the specified torque.

HYDRAULIC BRAKE SYSTEM - BLEED AIR

Whilst bleeding the air, refill the brake fluid reservoir as necessary.

The brake fluid collected should not be reused. The level should always be topped up using new fluid.

If the system is not fully operational after having carried out the bleeding operation, repeat the entire procedure after waiting a few hours for the brake fluid to settle down in the system.

- Remove the vehicle from the lift.
