Fitting a new compressor

12. Remove 2 upper bolts securing compressor to mounting bracket.
13. Remove front beam. See FRONT SUSPENSION, Repairs.
14. Remove 2 lower bolts securing compressor to mounting bracket.
15. Lower compressor from vehicle.

Fitting a new compressor

A new compressor is sealed and pressurised with Nitrogen gas. Slowly release the sealing cap, gas pressure should be heard to release as the seal is broken.

• NOTE: A new compressor should always
• have its sealing cap in place and must not
• be removed until immediately prior to
• fitting.

A new compressor is supplied with an oil fill quantity₃₃ (X cm ) of 135 cm. A calculated quantity of oil must be drained from a new compressor before fitting.

To calculate the quantity to be drained:

16. Remove the drain plug from the old compressor.
17. Invert compressor and gravity drain the oil into a calibrated measuring cylinder. Rotating the compressor clutch plate will assist complete draining.₃
18. Note the quantity of oil drained (Ycm )
19. Calculate the quantity of oil to be drained from the NEW compressor using the following formula:

X cm3- (Y cm3+ 20 cm3) = Q cm3

20. Remove drain plug from new compressor and₃ drain Qcm of oil. Fit and tighten compressor drain plug.

Fitting an existing compressor

When refitting an existing compressor a quantity of refrigerant oil equivalent to the amount obtained when the system was discharged must be added to the compressor.

Use only an approved refrigerant lubricating oil:

Sanden SP-10 Unipart SP-10

CAUTION: Do not use any other type of refrigerant oil.

Refrigerant oil easily absorbs water and must not be stored for long periods. Do not pour unused oil back into the container.
