The SRS indicator light displays the DTC by the number of blinks when the short connector is fitted to the service check connector.

Diagram showing the location of the SRS indicator light, data link connector, service check connector, and short connector under the dashboard. Figure number 86M3279.
  • A SRS indicator light
  • B Data link connector
  • C Service check connector (2 – P)
  • D Short connector (SCS)
    SMD 4086
  1. With ignition OFF, connect the short connector to the service check connector (2 – P)
  2. Turn ignition ON (II). The SRS indicator will come on for 6 seconds and then go off. It will then indicate the DTC:
  • The DTC consists of a main code and a sub – code.
  • Includes the most recent problem, up to 3 different malfunctions.
  • In the case of a continuous failure, the DTC will be indicated repeatedly.
  • In the case of an intermittent failure, the SRS indicator light will indicate DTC once, then will stay on.
  • If both a continuous and an intermittent failure occur, both DTC's will be indicated as continuous failures.
  • When there are no faults, the SRS indicator light will start blinking continuous short blinks

Fault Finding Intermittent Failures

If there was a malfunction that does not recur, it will be stored in the memory as an intermittent failure, and the SRS indicator light comes on.

After checking the DTC, fault find as follows:

  1. Record the DTC.
  2. Remove the short connector from the service check connector.
  3. Erase the DTC memory (see Erasing the DTC Memory )
  4. Start the engine and allow to idle.
  5. Connect the short connector to the service check connector. The SRS indicator light will blink continuous short blinks
  6. Shake the harness and the connector, and/or take a drive (quick acceleration, hard braking and cornering) to find the cause of the intermittent failure. If the problem recurs, the SRS indicator light will stop blinking and stay on.
  7. If the intermittent failure can not be duplicated, the system is OK at this time. Disconnect the short connector.
