DESCRIPTION
The shape of the front seats is designed to prevent the occupants from sinking down into the seat and slipping out below the abdominal stretch of the seat belt ("submarining" effect) in the event of a head-on collision.
Therefore, the structure of the seat is integrated with stiff cross pieces under the cushion and seat back which offer optimal restraint in the event of a crash. Additionally the back piece of the safety belt, with belt guide fastened to the seat back (Spider) or restrained adjustably on the pillar (GTV) perfectly "fits" the occupant's shoulder.
The safety belts are also fitted with pyrotechnic pretensioning devices. The headrests are fixed and protect the occupants from the "whiplash" effect when the car is hit from behind and from the rebounding following a head-on collision.
COMPLETE SEAT REMOVAL/REFITTING
The seat belt pre-tensioner is fitted on the front seat. Before removing the seat closely follow the SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS given in group 55 - "Electric System Diagnosis" - Section "Air Bag and Pre-tensioners". In particular disconnect both the battery terminals, isolate them accurately and wait for 10 minutes before doing any work.
- Move the seat completely forwards
- Slacken the two rear screws fastening the guides to the floor.
