AIR INTAKE SYSTEM

Air intake system
  1. Air cleaner element
  2. Throttle disc
  3. Idle air control valve
  4. Inlet manifold
  5. Injector
  6. Purge valve

Intake air is drawn into the throttle housing through an air filter element. Incorporated in the throttle housing are the throttle disc and the throttle position sensor.

Air is passed from the throttle housing via the manifold chamber into the inlet manifold where it is mixed with fuel injected by the injectors before the mixture is drawn into the combustion chamber.

  1. EVAP canister
  2. Engine Control Module
  3. Manifold absolute pressure sensor (VVC models)
  4. Fuel trap

An engine load signal is applied to the manifold absolute pressure sensor from the manifold chamber. This signal is used to calculate the fuel to be delivered by the injectors.

VVC versions of the engine use a separate manifold absolute pressure sensor fitted directly to the manifold chamber.
