ELECTRIC STEERING LOCK - Description

Description

The Passive Entry and Easy-Go systems are used to manage car protection, passenger compartment access and engine start-up.

The passenger compartment access and engine start-up system described allows customers to enter their cars and start their engines without using a key but simply by carrying a CID.

When the driver approaches the (locked, immobilized) vehicle and pulls the handle when they have a CID (e.g. in their pocket), the system automatically recognizes the CID and unlocks the doors and switches the alarm off.. See E7018 PASSIVE ENTRY.

Once the customer is sitting in the driver's seat and presses a button in the dashboard the system allows the engine to be started up

When customers reach their destination, they press the button again and the engine is turned off.

The entire car use cycle is therefore carried out without needing a key to open/close the car (remote control function) or to turn the engine on/off (ignition key function)

The car is not fitted with an ignition. Instead a button on the facia is used to turn the car on and off and start it up.

As there is no longer a mechanical key, the steering lock function is achieved electrically via a unit integrated in the electronic control unit connected to the CAN.

The search for the CID for opening the doors takes place via 5 exterior aerials, that for the starting go-ahead takes place via 3 interior aerials.

The system may not be able to detect the CID at the time the start button is pressed because it is not working or because the CID battery is flat. In that case, the CID is set to garage position, i.e. to the old immobiliser aerial on the central console.

With key-on, the aerial is activated in the same way as with the old code system and the magnetic field generated activates the CID transponder which enables the start-up system if it is detected.
