PARKING SENSOR DESCRIPTION
Description
This is a device that allows easy manoeuvring whilst parking: when reverse gear is engaged, it signals to the driver that an obstacle, which may be outside of the range of vision, is being approached.
It operates according to an ultrasound sonar principle: four ultrasound transducers are located inside the rear bumper. They send signals to a control unit which processes this information determining the distance of possible obstacles.
A speaker controlled by the control unit emits an intermittent sound, proportional to the distance of the obstacle detected.
The control unit is activated with reverse gear engaged: in these conditions, it energizes the transducers and sends them a signal request, receiving the response signals.
The control unit emits a signal with an intermittent sound through the special speaker: the frequency of this sound increases gradually as the bumper approaches an obstacle: when the distance calculated goes below 25 cm, the sound becomes high-pitched and constant.
If the distance of the obstacle detected increases, or if the driver disengages reverse gear, the sound stops. If the distance of the obstacle detected remains constant, the sound stops after about 3 seconds.
The signal that reverse gear is engaged < R1 > is managed by the body computer which sends this information to the parking sensor control unit via the CAN.
The operation of the parking sensors is automatically deactivated when the trailer is electrically connected. The sensors are automatically reactivated when the trailer is disconnected.
This device facilitates the parking stage: when reverse is engaged, it indicates the approach of an obstacle that could be outsid the driver''s visual range.
The system consists of four ultrasound sensors located inside the bumpers that send given signals to a specific control unit: once processed, the control unit is able to calculate the distance from possible obstacles and communicate it by means of a speaker, emitting an intermittent sound signal at a frequency proportional to the distance from the detected obstacle.
When the calculated distance is less than 25 [cm], the sound emitted becomes acute and constant.
If the distance of the obstacle detected increases, or if the driver disengages reverse gear, the sound stops. The control unit is activated with reverse gear engaged:
If the distance of the obstacle detected remains constant, the sound stops after about 3 seconds.
The signal that reverse gear is engaged is managed by the body computer node which sends this information to the parking sensor control unit via the CAN.
The operation of the parking sensors is automatically deactivated when the trailer is electrically connected. The sensors are automatically reactivated when the trailer is disconnected.
