Cross piece Removing and installing
Cross piece Removing and installing
  Note
The cross-member will only be fitted with certain model versions. It is located against the front bulkhead inside the plenum chamber.
Refer to → Parts catalogue for allocation of cross piece.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-
Removal:
   
–  partially remove the rubber seal -2- out of the plenum chamber cover in the direction of the -arrow-.
–  Remove the water box cover -1- towards the front.
Left-hand drive vehicle
  E50-10587
–  Remove bolts with washers -2- and -4-.
Refer to → Parts catalogue for allocation of bolts/washers.
–  Lift cross piece -1- out of plenum chamber -5-.
3  - Mounting bracket (left-side), welded to body
6  - Mounting bracket (right-side), welded to body
Arrow points in direction of travel.
For right-hand drive vehicles
–  Press the wiring harness to a side in the area of fastening the cross piece.
  A40-0468
–  Remove bolts with washers -2-, -4- and -7-.
–  Lift cross piece -1- with dowel pin out of plenum chamber -5-.
3  - Mounting bracket (left-side), welded to body
6  - Mounting bracket (right-side), welded to body
Arrow points in direction of travel.
Installation
Installation is carried out in reverse order.
Tightening torques for bolts / washers (left-hand drive and right-hand drive vehicles): 25 Nm
