Catalytic Converter Replacement (1.3L Diesel LSF)

Removal Procedure

Warning:  Refer to Exhaust Service Warning .

Warning:  Refer to Protective Goggles and Glove Warning .

Caution: Refer to Exhaust Flexible Pipe Bending Caution .

1. Open the hood.
2. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
3. Remove the engine sight shield. Refer to Engine Sight Shield Replacement .
4. Remove the catalytic converter heat shield. Refer to Catalytic Converter Heat Shield Replacement .
5. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle

6. Remove the catalytic converter nuts (1) from catalytic converter (2).

7. Remove the catalytic converter bracket nuts (1) from catalytic converter bracket.
8. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor wiring harness connector.
9. Remove the exhaust pressure sensor hose from catalytic converter.

10. Loosen the catalytic converter clamp (1).
11. Remove the catalytic converter (2) from catalytic converter bracket and turbocharger.
12. Remove the catalytic converter clamp (1).
13. Remove the catalytic converter gasket.

Installation Procedure

1. Install a NEW catalytic converter gasket.
2. Install the catalytic converter clamp (1).

3. Install the catalytic converter (2) to catalytic converter bracket and turbocharger.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution .
4. Fasten the catalytic converter clamp (1) and tighten to 25 N·m (18 lb ft) .
5. Install the exhaust pressure sensor hose to catalytic converter.
6. Connect the heated oxygen sensor wiring harness connector.

7. Install the catalytic converter bracket nuts (1) to catalytic converter bracket and tighten to 25 N·m (18 lb ft) .

8. Install the catalytic converter nuts (1) to catalytic converter (2) and tighten to 22 N·m (16 lb ft) .
9. Lower the vehicle.
10. Install the catalytic converter heat shield. Refer to Catalytic Converter Heat Shield Replacement .
11. Install the engine sight shield. Refer to Engine Sight Shield Replacement .
12. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
13. Close the hood.
