Seal - primary cover

SEAL - PRIMARY COVER

Service repair no - 44.20.29

Remove

1. Raise rear of vehicle.

WARNING: Support on safety stands.

2. Remove air cleaner. See ENGINE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM - MEMS, Repairs.
3. Remove LH rear road wheel.
4. Clean area around primary cover.
5. Position container to collect fluid loss.

6. Remove 3 bolts and brackets securing primary cover to gearbox.
7. Remove primary cover from gearbox.

8. Remove and discard 4 bolts securing engine pitot chamber to fluid pump drive.
9. Rotate pitot chamber sufficient to remove lower RH fluid pump bolt which secures the engine pitot tube.
10. Rotate pitot tube 180°anti-clockwise and remove pitot chamber. Collect pitot tube.
11. Remove and discard primary cover ’O’ ring from gearbox housing.

Refit

1. Clean primary cover and mating face of gearbox housing.
2. Lubricate new primary cover ’O’ ring and fit to gearbox housing.
3. Position pitot tube in fluid pump. Fit pitot chamber ensuring pitot tube is located in fluid pick-up channel in pitot chamber.
4. Rotate pitot chamber sufficient to align pitot tube. Fit pitot tube bolt and tighten to 10 Nm.
