SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER

Service repair no - 76.73.75

The front seat belts are fitted with belt pre-tensioners. In the event of a serious frontal impact, the pre-tensioners will pull the seat belt buckles down (towards the floor), thereby reducing any slack in both the lap and diagonal belts.

NOTE: The seat belt pre-tensioners will NOT be activated by rear, side or minor frontal impacts.

The belt pre-tensioners will only activate once and MUST THEN BE REPLACED. failure to replace the pre-tensioners will reduce the efficiency of the car’s front restraint systems.

Important Information

If the pre-tensioners have been activated, the seat belts will still function as restraints, and must be worn while the car is being driven to a Rover dealer for repair.

WARNING: After an impact, always check the seat belts and pre-tensioners and replace if necessary.

In the interests of safety, it is recommended that the front seats and seat belts should only be removed or replaced in accordance with the service instructions, and observing the following precautions.

  • ALWAYS ensure the red service key is inserted into the slot on pre-tensioner before removing the seat or pre-tensioner.
  • DO NOT remove the red service key unless the pre-tensioner is correctly fitted in the vehicle.
  • The pre-tensioner unit is a shock sensitive device and must be handled with extreme care. NEVER install a pre-tensioner that has been dropped.
  • DO NOT try to disable the pre-tensioner unit, it has no servicable parts. Any tampering with the pre-tensioner unit could cause it to fire, resulting in serious personal injury.
  • Always carry the pre-tensioner in two hands and NEVER by tube or cable.
  • DO NOT slide the seat assembly along the floor or mishandle the seat with a pre-tensioner fitted.
  • Always remove the service key and fit cover before the vehicle leaves the workshop. Failure to do this will prevent the pre-tensioners from activating, reducing the efficiency of the car’s front restraint systems.
