BRAKES NOISY

1.2 8v, 1.3 Multijet, 1.4 16v

During a braking manoeuvre, whistling or squeaking can be heard from the wheel area. Vibrations are also felt in the passenger compartment

		Test results
	Steer to the right or to the left and check whether the noise increases.	Move on to Step 1	The noise changes during steering.	Proceed as instructed in the See table S015 NOISE WHILST DRIVING
1	CHECK THE PAD TYPE AND SURFACE	All OK	Problems encountered	Operation
	Check: the condition of the pad braking surfaces; pad type.	Move on to Step 2	1. Front braking surfaces vitrified or with traces of grease, oil or water. Pads of non-specified type. 2. Rear braking surfaces vitrified or with traces of grease, oil or water. Pads of non-specified type.	1. Re-clean, check and remove the fault causes. Replace the pads if necessary Op. 3310A60 FRONT BRAKE PADS - REPLACE 2. Re-clean, check and remove the fault causes. Replace the pads if necessary Op. 3310B62
2	DISC CHECK	All OK	Problems encountered	Operation
	Check the condition of the brake discs.	Move on to Step 5	1. Front discs worn or damaged. 2. Rear discs worn or damaged.	1. Replace the front discs Op. 3310A52 2. Replace the rear discs Op. 3310B52 REAR BRAKE DISCS - R+R WITH BRAKE CALIPERS REMOVED
3	CHECK FOR THE PRESENCE OF IRON FILINGS	All OK	Problems encountered	Operation
	Remove the drum and check for the presence of iron filings in the drum and the shoes.	Move on to Step 4	Presene of iron filings in the drum and the shoes.	Clean the iron filings from the drum and the shoes. "Refit the drum tighten the wheel bolts to the recommended torque".
4	CHECKS ON DRUM	All OK	Problems encountered	Operation
	Check whether the drum is oval using suitable measuring equipment.	Move on to Step 5	Drum oval.	Replace the drum. Op. 3320B30 REAR BRAKE DRUM (ONE), LEFT OR RIGHT - R.R.
5	CHECKS ON THE WHEEL HUB	All OK	Problems encountered	Operation
	Check the following on the wheel hub: circularity; radial clearances; axial clearances.	End of diagnosis	1. Excessive circularity. 2. Excessive radial clearance. 3. Excessive axial clearance.	1. Replace the hub. Op. 4450D10 HUB FOR ONE REAR WHEEL, L/H OR R/H - R+R WITH WHEEL REMOVED - CHECK WHEEL GEOMETRY SEPARATELY 2. Replace the hub.
