Foreword
To increase theft protection, the vehicles are equipped with an electronic engine immobilising system called "FIAT CODE 2".
The keys are fitted with an electronic "Transponder" device which sends a code to a specific ECU. If the ECU recognises the code, the engine can be started.
NEW SCRAMBLED CODE CONCEPTION SYSTEM
The second generation CODE system follows the same operating logic as the previous system used in Fiat vehicles with the following advantages:
- the code used in the communication between CODE 2 ECU and key - which is carried out via the aerial - varies at each start-up ("ROLLING CODE"): consequently the code cannot be reproduced even with electronic scanners.
- the Master key is eliminated: two keys, previously programmed for the CODE system are provided.
- the CODE ECU presents direct self-test features.
- the codes are stored in a database managed by the Spare Parts Division. Consequently, no storing or CODE programming procedures are required on behalf of the Dealers when delivering the new vehicle to the customer.
CODE 2 system components
The CODE 2 system consists of:
- two (or more) electronic keys
- a CODE 2 ECU, with serial communications line to the engine management ECU;
- ignition switch aerial;
- Code Card for emergency start-up procedures.
