SEAL - FRONT - INLET AND EXHAUST CAMSHAFT

Service repair no - 12.13.07 - seal - exhaust camshaft Service repair no - 12.13.09 - seal - inlet camshaft

Remove

  1. Disconnect battery earth lead.
  2. Remove and discard camshaft timing belt. See this section.

  1. Restrain camshaft gear with holding tool 12-182.
  2. Remove bolt and washer securing camshaft gear to camshaft.

NOTE: Only remove gear from camshaft which is to have oil seal replaced.

  1. Remove camshaft gear alignment tool. LRT-12-134.
  2. Remove camshaft gear.
Seal - front - inlet and exhaust camshaft – Remove camshaft gear.
  1. Fit camshaft gear retaining bolt to camshaft.
  2. Screw oil seal removal tool LRT-12-147 into camshaft oil seal.
  3. Remove oil seal by tightening centre bolt of tool LRT-12-147.
  4. Discard camshaft oil seal.
  5. Remove bolt from camshaft.

Refit

  1. Clean seal area of cylinder head and camshaft carrier, ensuring all traces of rubber are removed. DO NOT use a scraper as this may damage sealing surfaces.

  1. Using tool LRT-12-148A, fit new camshaft oil seal.

NOTE: This oil seal is coloured BLACK.

CAUTION: Oil seal must be fitted dry. Do not use tool LRT-12-148.
