CHECK ENGINE SPEED
| CHECK TO BE PERFORMED | RESOLUTION IF THE CHECK IS NOT OK | |
|---|---|---|
Turn the ignition ON and check that the engine rpm does not exceed 60 rpm. | Move on to Step 3
With the engine idling and warm, with all users off and the accelerator pedal not operated, the engine rpm must be in a range between 770 and 930 rpm. The test may be said to be completed | Move on to Step 3
Check for the presence of error P0219 – Excessive speed recognition. Continue to Step 5 | Engine rpm is greater than 5400 rpm. Inform the customer that this high engine rpm speed may cause mechanical damage. Continue to Step 4
Check that the intake system is not contaminated with oil. The test may be considered to be completed | Continue as indicated
Turn the ignition key OFF. Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the engine control unit See M010 ENGINE MANAGEMENT ECU Turn the ignition key ON. Measure the voltage between Pin 27 (wiring side) of connector B control unit wiring side and Earth, checking it is less than 0.3 V. See M010 ENGINE MANAGEMENT ECU Move on to Step 7 | Move on to Step 6
If faults are present, repair or if necessary replace the electrical wiring between the engine control unit and the rpm sensor See E5050 DIESEL ENGINES ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT The test can be considered over | Change the rpm sensor
Turn the ignition key OFF. Measure the voltage between Pin 27 (wiring side) of connector B control unit wiring side and Earth, checking it is less than 500 V. | Move on to Step 6
Measure the resistance between Pins 12 and 27 (wiring side) of connector B control unit wiring side, checking it is in a range between 200 and 3000 Ohms. See M010 ENGINE MANAGEMENT ECU Move on to Step 11 | Move on to Step 9
Measure the resistance between Pins 12 and 27 (wiring side) of connector B control unit wiring side, checking it is less than 200 Ohms. | Move on to Step 6
If faults are present, repair or if necessary replace the engine control unit electrical wiring. See E5050 DIESEL ENGINES ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT The test can be considered over | Change the rpm sensor
Reconnect the wiring harness connector to the control unit See M010 ENGINE MANAGEMENT ECU Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the rpm sensor. Set the multimeter to measure alternating current voltage Measure the voltage between sensor (wiring side) Pins 1 and 2 Start the engine and check the voltage is greater than 0.5 V | Change the rpm sensor
Check that the sensor operates correctly: in particular, check for intermittent contacts, missing teeth, incorrect reference point, incorrect gap position, etc. | Restore correct operation, if necessary, replace the faulty components
Replace the engine management control unit
| STEP | CHECK TO BE PERFORMED | RESOLUTION IF THE CHECK IS NOT OK |
|---|---|---|
Turn the ignition key ON and check that the engine rpm are greater than 60 rpm. | Move on to Step 4
With the engine idling and warm, with all users off and the accelerator pedal not operated, the engine rpm must be in a range between 780 and 1100 rpm. The test may be considered over. Continue to Step 4 | Move on to Step 4
With the accelerator pedal operated at full throttle for a short time, engine rpm should roughly coincide with the reading on the instrument panel rev counter. The test can be considered over | Move on to Step 4
Turn the ignition key OFF. Disconnect the wiring harness connector from engine control unit connector B Turn the ignition key ON. Measure the voltage between control unit pins 43 and 59 (wiring side) See M010 ENGINE MANAGEMENT ECU and Earth, checking it is less than 0.3 V | Repair or if necessary replace the electrical wiring between the engine control unit and the rpm sensor
Turn the ignition key OFF. Measure the resistance between control unit pins 43 and 59 (wiring side) See M010 ENGINE MANAGEMENT ECU and Earth, checking it is greater than 500 kOhms Move on to Step 7 | Move on to Step 6
If faults are present, repair or if necessary replace the electrical wiring between the engine control unit and the rpm sensor See E5050 DIESEL ENGINES ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT The test can be considered over | Change the rpm sensor
Disconnect the wiring harness from the rpm sensor. Measure the resistance across control unit pin 43 (wiring side) See M010 ENGINE MANAGEMENT ECU and pin 1 of the solenoid checking that it is less than 5 Ohm. | Repair or if necessary replace the electrical wiring between the engine control unit and the rpm sensor
Measure the resistance across control unit sensor Pin 59 (wiring side) See M010 ENGINE MANAGEMENT ECU and pin 2 of the sensor checking that it is less than 5 Ohm. | Repair or if necessary replace the electrical wiring between the engine control unit and the rpm sensor
Check that the sensor operates correctly: in particular, check for intermittent contacts, missing teeth, incorrect reference point, incorrect gap position, etc. | Restore correct operation, if necessary, replace the faulty components
Change the rpm sensor Op. 1060G20 ENGINE RPM SENSOR - R.R. and check the fault has disappeared | Repair the original rpm sensor and replace the engine management control unit.
