IGNITION COMPONENTS
Ignition coil - KV6 engine
Three coils are mounted on a bracket attached to the LH inlet manifold. The circuit to each coil is completed via switching within the ECM allowing the coil to charge up and then fire, producing power to two spark plugs simultaneously:
Front coil 1 - No.1 and No.4 plugs Centre coil 2 - No.3 and No.6 plugs Rear coil 3 - No.2 and No.5 plugs
The direct ignition system coils used in a programmed ignition installation have a lower primary winding resistance (0.63 to 0.77 ohms at 20°C) than it’s conventional counterpart. This allows the full h.t. output to be reached faster and so makes the coil operation more consistent throughout the engine speed range.
NOTE: Each coil has two h.t. leads, one of which has positive h.t and the other has negative h.t.
Positive leads to plugs No. 1 - 3 - 5 Negative leads to plugs No. 2 - 4 - 6
Ignition coil - ’T’ series engine
A Quad output coil is mounted on a bracket attached to the LH side of the cylinder block. Operation is the same as KV6 with the exception that, positive sparks are supplied to cylinders 1 and 2 and negative sparks to cylinders 3 and 4.
