Inlet air temperature sensor
The inlet air temperature sensor is a thermistor (temperature dependent resistor) whose voltage output varies in proportion to temperature. The sensor is located in No. 5 inlet tract close to the cylinder head on KV6 engines or the inlet manifold on ’T’ series engines.
If the air temperature rises above 40°C, the ECM uses this signal to retard the ignition timing progressively to prevent predetonation in high ambient temperatures.
Engine coolant temperature sensor
The coolant temperature sensor, mounted in the top of the cylinder block to the LH side of the thermostat housing on KV6 engines or in the thermostat housing on ’T’ series engines, is a resistive device in which the resistance varies with temperature.
When the ECM receives a high or low engine temperature signal from the coolant sensor, it provides optimum driveability and emissions by advancing or retarding the ignition timing.
Engine oil temperature sensor - KV6 engine
The oil temperature sensor is mounted on the front of the crankcase to the right of the crankshaft pulley and is immersed in the engine oil on the input side of the oil pump. The sensor is a resistive device in which the resistance varies with temperature.
