Battery Replacement - Diesel without Start/Stop System

Special Tools

GE-49379 Battery Remover

For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools .

Removal Procedure

1. Disconnect battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .





2. Unlock the retaining tab (1) on the battery fuse box cover.
3. Use a suitable screwdriver (2) to unlock the clip (4) through the window (3).






Note:  Pull the battery fuse box housing. DO NOT pull the flap.

4. Open the battery fuse box cover (1).





5. Remove the battery hold down retainer nut (5).
6. Remove the battery hold down retainer (6).
7. Remove the battery positive to starter cable nut (1).
8. Remove the battery positive to starter cable (7).
9. Loosen the 2 battery positive plate nuts (2).
10. Loosen the battery positive cable nut (3).
11. Remove the battery positive cable (4).





12. Unclip the battery fuse block retainer clips (1) from the battery and remove the battery fuse block along with the battery positive cable.





13. Unclip the battery current sensor (3) from the battery tray.
14. Disconnect the 2 glow plug controller wiring harness plugs (4) from the glow plug controller (2).
15. Remove the glow plug controller bracket (1) from the battery tray.





16. Unlock the retaining tab (2) and remove the protector battery tray (1).
17. Remove the battery with the GE-49379 remover .

Installation Procedure

1. Install the battery with the GE-49379 remover .





2. Install the protector battery tray (1).





3. Install the glow plug controller bracket (1) to the battery tray.
4. Connect the 2 glow plug controller wiring harness plugs (4) to the glow plug controller (2).
5. Clip in the battery current sensor (3) to the battery tray.





6. Align the rear side of the battery fuse box (1) exactly to the rear side of the battery (2).





7. Install the positive cable (4) to the battery.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

8. Tighten the battery positive cable nut (3) to  4.5N·m (40 lb in) .
9. Tighten the 2 battery positive plate nuts (2) to  12 N·m (106 lb in) .
10. Install the battery positive cable to starter cable (7).
11. Install the battery positive cable to starter cable nut (1) and tighten to  12 N·m (106 lb in) .
12. Install the battery hold down retainer (6).
13. Install the battery hold down retainer nut (5) and tighten to  9 N·m (80 lb in) .





14. Close the battery fuse box cover and lock the retaining tabs (1) and (4).
15. Connect battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
