Starter Replacement (1.7L Diesel LPL and LPV)

Removal Procedure

1. Open the hood.
2. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
3. Unclip the engine control module bracket from the battery tray.

4. Remove the starter bolt (1).
5. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
6. Remove the exhaust pressure sensor pipe from the exhaust particulate filter. Refer to Exhaust Pressure Sensor Pipe Replacement .

7. Remove the starter and generator positive cable nut (4) and the starter and generator positive cable (3).
8. Remove the starter positive cable bolt (1) and the starter positive cable (2).
9. Remove the starter ground cable nut (5) and the starter ground cable (6).

10. Remove the starter stud (2).
11. Remove the starter (1).

Installation Procedure

1. Install the starter (1).

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution .
2. Install the starter stud (2) and tighten to 38 N·m (28 lb ft) .

3. Install the starter and generator positive cable (3) and the starter and generator positive cable nut (4) and tighten to 13 N·m (115 lb in) .
4. Install the wiring harness starter positive cable (2) and the wiring harness starter positive cable bolt (1) and tighten to 2 N·m (18 lb in) .
5. Install the starter ground cable (6) and the starter ground cable nut (5) and tighten to 13 N·m (115 lb in) .
6. Install the exhaust pressure sensor pipe to the exhaust particulate filter. Refer to Exhaust Pressure Sensor Pipe Replacement .
7. Lower the vehicle.

8. Install the starter bolt (1) and tighten to 60 N·m (44 lb ft) .
9. Clip in the engine control module bracket to the battery tray.
10. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
11. Close the hood.
