Diagram
  1. Remove bolt securing engine mounting bracket to steady bar.
  2. Remove nut securing engine mounting bracket to engine mounting.
  3. Remove 2 bolts securing mounting bracket to engine.
  4. Remove engine mounting bracket.
  5. Remove camshaft timing belt.

CAUTION: Ease timing belt off gears using fingers only. Metal levers may damage the belt and gears. Do not rotate the engine with the timing belt removed and the cylinder head fitted. Timing belts must be stored and handled with care. Always store a timing belt on its edge with a bend radius greater than 50 mm Do not use a timing belt that has been twisted or bent double as this can damage the reinforcing fibres. Do not use an oil contaminated timing belt.

NOTE: The cause of oil contamination MUST be rectified.

Refit

  1. Clean timing gears and pulleys.

CAUTION: If the sintered gears have been subjected to prolonged oil contamination, they must be soaked in a solvent bath and then thoroughly washed in clean solvent before refitment. Because of the porous construction of sintered material, oil impregnated in the gear will emerge and contaminate a new belt.

  1. Check correct alignment of timing marks on crankshaft and camshaft gears.
  2. Position timing belt to engine and raise engine to correct height.
  3. Fit bracket to engine mounting and finger tighten nut.
  4. Fit bolts securing bracket to engine and tighten to 160 Nm.
  5. Fit bolt securing bracket to tie bar and tighten to 80 Nm.
  6. Tighten nut securing bracket to engine mounting to 85 Nm.
  7. Remove jack.
  8. Fit timing belt over crankshaft gear and then over camshaft gears, keeping belt taut from crankshaft gear and between camshaft gears.
  9. Position belt using fingers only over tensioner and coolant pump drive gear.
  10. If the original belt is to be refitted, ensure direction of rotation is facing the correct way.
  11. Check that timing belt is positioned centrally around all gears and pulley.
  12. Fit and align lower timing belt cover, ensuring correct position of rubber seal.
  13. Fit lower timing belt cover screws and tighten to 5 Nm.
  14. Fit crankshaft pulley to crankshaft gear ensuring that indent on pulley locates over lug on gear.
  15. Fit crankshaft pulley bolt with washer and tighten to 205 Nm.
  16. Remove camshaft and flywheel locking tools.
  17. Fit starter motor. See ELECTRICAL, Repairs.
  18. Tension camshaft timing belt. See Adjustments.
  19. Fit camshaft timing belt upper cover. See this section.
  20. Fit auxiliary drive belt. See ELECTRICAL, Repairs.
