SUMP - 1.6 & 1.8 MODELS

Service repair no - 12.60.38

Remove

  1. Disconnect battery earth lead.
  2. Raise front of vehicle.

WARNING: Support on safety stands.

  1. Remove exhaust front pipe. See MANIFOLD & EXHAUST SYSTEMS, Repairs.
  2. Drain engine oil. See MAINTENANCE.
  3. Fit new sealing washer to engine oil drain plug. Fit drain plug and tighten to 25 Nm.
Sump - 1.6 & 1.8 models – Fit new sealing washer to engine oil drain plug. Fit drain plug and tighten to 25 Nm.
  1. Loosen through bolt securing engine steady bar to subframe.
  2. Remove through bolt securing engine steady bar to bracket on sump.
Sump - 1.6 & 1.8 models – Remove through bolt securing engine steady bar to bracket on sump.
  1. Remove 2 bolts securing sump to gearbox.
Sump - 1.6 & 1.8 models – Remove 2 bolts securing sump to gearbox.
  1. Noting fitted positions of 2 longest bolts, remove 14 bolts securing sump to engine bearing ladder.
  2. Using a mallet, gently tap sump sideways to release sealant bond; remove sump.

CAUTION: Do not lever between sump and bearing ladder.

Do not carry out further dismantling if component is removed for access only.

  1. Remove 4 bolts securing engine steady bar bracket to sump, remove bracket.
  2. Fit bracket to sump, fit bolts and tighten to 80 Nm.
