- Remove tool 18G 1747 from timing gears.
- If timing belt is to be refitted, mark belt direction of rotation.
- Remove timing belt from gears.
CAUTION: DO NOT rotate crankshaft with timing belt removed and cylinder heads fitted.
CAUTION: Although the camshaft timing belt has a service life of 96,000 miles, 160,000 km, an existing belt should only be refitted if it has completed less than 48,000 miles, 80,000 km. • DO NOT use a timing belt which has been twisted or bent double because reinforcing fibres may be fractured. Timing belts must be stored and handled with care. Always store a timing belt on its edge with a bend radius greater than 50 mm. • DO NOT use an oil contaminated timing belt. The cause of oil contamination MUST be rectified.
Refit
- Clean timing gears, hubs and mating faces on camshafts. Fit hubs to gears.
- Place gears on a flat surface with timing belt guide plates facing up on inlet camshaft gear and down on exhaust camshaft gear. Ensure centre hubs are in the position shown and fit timing belt to gears.
CAUTION: If original belt is to be refitted, ensure direction of rotation mark is facing correct way.
- Fit tool 18G 1747-1 to gears, turn centre screw to separate gears sufficiently to fit tool 18G 1747 .
