- Relieve pressure from camshaft timing belt tensioner using an Allen key fitted to tensioner pulley and remove 2 bolts securing tensioner.
CAUTION: DO NOT loosen Allen screw securing tensioner pulley.
- Remove tensioner.
- If timing belt is to be refitted, mark belt direction of rotation.
- Remove timing belt.
CAUTION: Ease timing belt off gears using fingers only. Metal levers may damage the belt and gears.
CAUTION: DO NOT rotate crankshaft with timing belt removed and cylinder heads fitted.
CAUTION: Although the camshaft timing belt has a service life of 96,000 miles, 160,000 km, an existing belt should only be refitted if it has completed less than 48,000 miles, 80,000 km. • DO NOT use a timing belt which has been twisted or bent double because reinforcing fibres may be fractured. Timing belts must be stored and handled with care. Always store a timing belt on its edge with a bend radius greater than 50 mm. • DO NOT use an oil contaminated timing belt. The cause of oil contamination MUST be rectified.
- Remove bolt securing dipstick tube bracket to cylinder head.
- Remove both exhaust camshaft front oil seals.
- Fit tools 18G 1747-2 to both front timing gears.
CAUTION: Tools must be fitted when loosening or tightening gear retaining bolts, otherwise damage to camshafts may occur.
- Remove bolts retaining front timing gears and discard.
- Remove tools 18G 1747-2.
- Remove timing gear and hub assemblies.
