Camshaft timing belt - air conditioning (page 5 of 6)

Refit

1. Clean timing gears, hubs and pulleys.
2. Fit hubs to timing gears and fit gears to camshafts.
3. Fit NEW bolts and tighten sufficiently to allow gears to rotate without tipping.
4. Position timing belt to gears.

CAUTION: If original belt is to be refitted, ensure direction of rotation mark is facing correct way.

5. Fit tools 18G 1747-2 to both front timing gears.
6. Rotate both front timing gears fully clockwise as viewed from front of engine.
7. Using fingers only, fit timing belt to gears, starting at the crankshaft gear and working in an anti-clockwise direction, keeping the run as taut as possible and turning the camshaft gears only a minimum amount anti-clockwise to fit belt.

NOTE: To prevent timing belt from disengaging from crankshaft gear when fitting, fit a suitable wedge between belt and oil pump belt guard.

8. Using a vice, slowly compress tensioner plunger and fit a suitable pin, 1.5 mm in diameter, to retain plunger.
9. Clean tensioner bolts and apply Loctite 242 to first 3 threads.
10. Hold tensioner pulley against belt using an Allen key.
11. Position tensioner, fit bolts and tighten to 25 Nm.
12. Release tensioner pulley and remove pin from tensioner.
13. Position harness clip to oil pump housing, fit bolt and tighten to 9 Nm.
14. Tighten front timing gear bolts to 28 Nm. Tighten bolts a further 90°.
15. Remove tools 18G 1747.
16. Remove wedge from between timing belt and oil pump belt guard.
17. Ensuring bolt that remains captive is fitted to mounting bracket, manoeuvre bracket into position.
18. Fit RH lower bolt and align bracket to engine taking care not to displace timing cover backplate seals.
19. Fit remaining bolts but DO NOT tighten bolts at this stage.
20. Position alternator/PAS pump mounting bracket and engine lifting bracket. fit bolts and tighten to 45 Nm.
