Alternator/Regulator Operation Test (page 2 of 3) – diagram from the Electrical chapter of the Rover Rover 600 Repair Manual - Volumes 1 and 2 - 2nd Edition factory manual.

Note: Because an overall check is necessary to avoid misleading conclusions, test the alternator components in the order described below.

Flowchart diagram titled 'Alternator Components Test Procedure'. A decision box asks 'Is there battery voltage less than 16V with the high beams on and the engine running at 2000 rpm?'. The YES path leads sequentially through boxes: 'Inspect the brushes.', 'Test the rectifier.', 'Test the stator.', 'Test the rotor.'. The NO path connects directly to the final box. All paths lead to a final box: 'Regulator is faulty. Replace the regulator.'
